About Us: Leadership
RICHARD S. ASBURY is the team leader and
founder of Vanguard Training Services.
He is a Human Performance Improvement (HPI) certified
consultant, a certified Seminar Leader, and a certified
Toastmaster. While leading Vanguard Training Services,
LLC, he consulted with numerous non-profit and
governmental organizations in the Cleveland area
providing training and consulting services.
Richard holds a M. S. Education in Adult Learning and
Development, from Cleveland State University, a M.A. Ed.
from Pepperdine University and a B.S. Ed. from Ohio
University.
Richard is a retired Naval officer, with 21 years of
active duty service. He has traveled extensively in
Europe, Asia, Africa Mexico and the Caribbean. Richard
is a native of Washington, PA and his spent most of his
adult life living on one of the U.S. coasts.
Richard is also an avid SCUBA diver and cyclist. He is
married to Roxann and is the father of two adult
children, Valerie and Tariq.

leadership role in helping to enhance the activities of
our 100 Black Men of Tomorrow Program, we didn’t have to
look very far. Richard Asbury was willing ready and
able to assume that challenge. Richard brought to the
